Now that I have to describe myself, I realise for the first time that my love of reading (and thus the start of my interest in writing) was born of defiance. I didn't do much to incur punishment as I was growing up, but when I was I was usually grounded. This meant no friends and no television. "Haha!" I would think as I went straight to my room on these afternoons. "What kind of punishment is this if I'm not banned from my books?"
And so, it started. I read what I wanted to read - sweet little stories of twins growing up, mystery novels, things about magic and travelling and seeing the world. But as I got older and my interests expanded, I found myself struggling to find a book or story that had everything I wanted, that turned out just the way I liked it. Voilá! An aspiring writer was born.
Thus my writing is quite personal. Sometimes in the traditional sense, but mostly because what I write is written because it entertains and captivates me. If it attracts anyone else's attention, well, that's very flattering and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and apparently a half-crazy glint in my eye.
At the moment, I am studying English and Journalism and Media Studies (JMS, or journ as it is commonly referred to by its victims) in an effort to develop my creative and cognitive skills, with an emphasis on actually getting my writing reviewed and criticised (although this basically only extends to academic writing and journ assignments). As you can see on the home page, I am 21, studying in Grahamstown at Rhodes University and, while I'm not at all bored with life (thank you, myriad of essays waiting in my homework box), I like wasting time creating stories and snippets and now, blog posts.
